What should a hockey bettor look for in a bookmaker?

This page describes bookmakers for ice hockey. It doesn’t promote any of them, there are no offers on it, and I earn nothing when you sign up. If you want the best ice hockey betting sites, you first need to know which half of the list applies to you, because hockey betting splits neatly in two.

North America. The NHL is the centre of everything. DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars are state-licensed US sportsbooks with deep NHL menus: moneyline, puck line, totals and player props. Fanatics, Hard Rock Bet and BetRivers cover fewer states. In Canada, Sports Interaction is a long-running sportsbook with a hockey-first market list, and theScore Bet is built into theScore media app.

Europe. bet365, Unibet, Betano, Superbet, Fortuna and others price the NHL along with the KHL, the Nordic leagues and international hockey. Here you’ll mostly see three-way betting on regulation time, where the draw is a result. It’s a different bet from the North American moneyline, and the two are easy to confuse.

What matters wherever you are: a licence in your own country or state, first and always. Then the margin on moneylines, since hockey prices sit close to even and small differences add up. Then how quickly markets are updated when a starting goalie is confirmed, the range of leagues, and live betting that can keep up with the game. Scoring follows the methodology. These are early marks based on what each product says publicly, and they’ll be revisited when proper reviews are done.

American and decimal odds are explained in how betting odds work. Do your research on ice hockey prediction sites first, and see the NHL betting guide for the markets. If betting is becoming a problem, the responsible gambling page has help lines. 18+, or 21+ in most US states.

Ice hockey betting sites: common questions

  • Which bookmaker is best for NHL betting?

That depends on where you live. In the US, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars cover the NHL in the states where they hold licences. In Canada, Sports Interaction has a hockey-first market list and theScore Bet is built into theScore media app. Pinnacle has low margins but isn't licensed in the UK or the US.

  • What is three-way betting in hockey?

It's a market on the result after 60 minutes of regulation time, with three outcomes: home win, draw or away win. If the game goes to overtime, the draw wins. It's standard with European bookmakers. The two-way moneyline, more common in North America, includes overtime and shootouts, so one team always wins.

  • Can I bet on European hockey leagues?

Yes. European bookmakers such as Betano, Superbet, Unibet and Fortuna price the KHL, the Swedish, Finnish, Czech and Swiss leagues and international tournaments, as well as the NHL. US sportsbooks focus on the NHL and offer less elsewhere. Markets and limits on smaller leagues are narrower, and prices move fast on team news.

  • Do NHL odds differ much between sportsbooks?

More than you'd expect. Hockey moneylines are close to even on many games, so a few cents of difference matters: +115 at one book and +125 at another is a real gap over a long season. Totals can differ by half a goal too. Comparing two or three licensed books before each bet is the simplest edge available.

  • When should I place an NHL bet?

There's a trade-off. Early prices can be better, but starting goalies are often confirmed only on game day, and a switch to the backup moves the line. Many bettors wait for confirmation unless they have a strong reason. Whatever you do, check the goalie news before betting the moneyline or the total.

  • Does TheBettingDude take money from hockey sportsbooks?

No. There are no affiliate links, paid placements, bonuses or promo codes on this site. Sportsbooks are scored with the same rubric as everything else, and the verdicts include the downsides.
