How do you choose an NFL betting site?

Nobody pays to be on this page, and nothing here earns me a commission: no promo codes, no affiliate links. It’s a description of the best NFL betting sites on the list below, plus the order I’d check things in before opening an account.

Start with where you live. In the US, online sports betting is licensed state by state, and a sportsbook checks your location before each bet. DraftKings and FanDuel are the two largest US sportsbooks by market share and operate in many states. BetMGM and Caesars come from the casino groups. Fanatics is newer and app-first, so check whether it’s live in your state. Hard Rock Bet is the only legal online option in Florida. BetRivers, theScore Bet and Sports Interaction are most relevant in certain states or in Ontario.

Outside North America. The list also carries UK, Irish and Romanian bookmakers: bet365, Sky Bet, William Hill, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Coral, Betfred, BetVictor, 888sport, Unibet, Betway, Superbet and Betano. They price every NFL game with spreads, totals and moneylines, and their prop menus are smaller than the US books’. bet365 sits first on score, but a US-only reader can skip most of these names, and a European reader can skip most of the American ones.

Then compare the number. In this sport, half a point around 3 or 7 decides a lot of bets. Two books will often show different spreads on the same game, which is the practical argument for holding more than one legal account.

Then the price. Standard spreads cost -110 a side. Pinnacle is the low-margin reference, though it isn’t licensed in the UK or the US. Betfair, Smarkets and Matchbook are exchanges that charge commission instead of building in a margin; NFL liquidity there is best on the big games.

Then the menu. Player props, alternate lines, live betting, same-game parlays. More choice is more fun, and it usually carries a higher margin too.

Scores use five criteria today: transparency, coverage, ease of use, price and support. Accuracy joins once pick tracking is running, and it never applies to bookmakers, which publish no picks. The methodology has the weights. I haven’t opened accounts and tested these books, so the scores are provisional and built from public information.

Before building a multi-leg ticket, read what is a parlay and try the parlay calculator. For research, see NFL prediction sites. If betting stops being fun, the responsible gambling page has help lines. 21+ in most US states, 18+ elsewhere.

NFL betting sites: common questions

  • What is the best sportsbook for NFL betting?

It depends on your state, because US sportsbooks are licensed state by state. Of the books I list, DraftKings and FanDuel are the two largest by market share, both with long prop and same-game parlay menus, and BetMGM and Caesars are the casino-backed options. The best setup is usually two or three legal books, so you can compare lines.

  • Is it legal to bet on the NFL online?

In many US states, yes, through sportsbooks licensed by that state's regulator. Some states allow only in-person betting and some allow none. A legal sportsbook checks your location before taking a bet. Offshore sites that accept US customers without a state licence offer you no regulator to turn to if something goes wrong.

  • Why does half a point matter so much in NFL betting?

Because NFL games end on margins of 3 and 7 more than any others. If you have the underdog at +3.5 and the favourite wins by three, you win; at +2.5 you lose. Sportsbooks often differ by half a point on the same game, so comparing lines before you bet is worth more here than in any other sport.

  • Can I bet on the NFL from the UK or Europe?

Yes. Most UK and European bookmakers price every NFL game with spreads, totals and moneylines, though prop menus are smaller than in the US. Exchanges such as Smarkets and Matchbook offer NFL markets too, with the best liquidity on prime-time games and the playoffs. Use a bookmaker licensed in your own country.

  • What is the vig on an NFL spread?

The vig, or juice, is the sportsbook's cut. On a standard spread both sides are priced at -110, so you stake 110 to win 100. If the book takes equal money on both sides, it keeps the difference. Some books offer -105 or reduced-juice lines at times, which is a real saving over a full season.

  • Do you publish NFL sportsbook promo codes?

No, never. I don't list promos, bonus bets or sign-up deals, and I earn nothing from sportsbooks. Those deals exist to get you betting more than you planned. What I can tell you is what each book offers: its markets, how it prices them and where it's licensed.
