What should you look for in an NBA betting site?

Looking for the best NBA betting sites? You’ll get descriptions here, not adverts: no bonuses, no promo codes, and I’m not paid if you sign up anywhere. Here’s what I think matters, in order, and who’s on the list.

Licensing first. The list has two halves. One is US sportsbooks, and in the US a licence is granted state by state. DraftKings and FanDuel are the two largest by market share and operate in many states. BetMGM and Caesars come from the casino groups. Fanatics is newer, so check whether it’s live in your state. Hard Rock Bet is the only legal online option in Florida. BetRivers, theScore Bet and Sports Interaction matter most in particular states or in Ontario. The other half is UK, Irish and European books: bet365, Betfair, Sky Bet, William Hill, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Coral, Betfred, BetVictor, 888sport, Unibet and Betway, plus Superbet and Betano in Romania. They price every NBA game with spreads, totals and moneylines, though their player prop menus are smaller than the US ones. If a book isn’t licensed where you’re standing, it isn’t an option, whatever its score.

Then prices. The standard price on a spread is -110 on each side; a book that gives you better than that, even occasionally, pays you more for the same opinion. Pinnacle is the low-margin reference point, though it isn’t licensed in the UK or the US. Betfair’s exchange and Matchbook charge commission instead of a margin.

Then the menu. Player props, alternate lines, live betting and same-game parlays. Bigger menus are more fun. They also carry bigger margins, so a wide menu isn’t automatically a good thing for you.

Scores use five criteria today: transparency, coverage, ease of use, price and support. Accuracy joins once pick tracking is running, and it never applies to bookmakers, which publish no picks. The numbers are provisional and come from desk research; I haven’t opened accounts and tested these books. The methodology page has the detail.

American odds are explained in how betting odds work, and what is a parlay covers the bet type sportsbooks push hardest. For research, go to NBA prediction sites. If betting is causing you problems, the responsible gambling page lists help lines. 21+ in most US states, 18+ elsewhere.

NBA betting sites: common questions

  • Which sportsbook is best for NBA betting?

In the US it depends first on your state, since each sportsbook is licensed state by state. DraftKings and FanDuel are the two largest US sportsbooks by market share, and both have long prop and same-game parlay menus. Outside the US, bet365 has the highest score on this list, and Pinnacle is known for low margins but isn't licensed in the UK or the US.

  • Is NBA betting legal in my state?

Sports betting law in the US is set state by state. Many states now allow online sportsbooks, some allow betting only in person, and some don't allow it at all. Your state's gaming regulator lists the licensed operators. A legal sportsbook will check your location on your phone before it accepts a bet.

  • How old do I have to be to bet on the NBA?

In most US states the minimum age for sports betting is 21; a few set it at 18. In Canada it's 19 in most provinces, Ontario included. In the UK and most of Europe it's 18. Licensed sportsbooks verify your age and identity before you can withdraw, and betting under age is illegal everywhere.

  • What is a same-game parlay?

It's a parlay built from several picks in one game, such as a team to win, the total to go over and a player to score 25 or more. The sportsbook prices the combination itself, and the margin is usually higher than on single bets. They're fun and hard to win; try the maths in a parlay calculator first.

  • Why do NBA lines differ between sportsbooks?

Each book sets its own numbers and adjusts them to its own customers' money. One may show -4.5 while another has -5 on the same game, and prop prices vary even more. Having accounts at two or three licensed books and taking the best line is a simple, legal edge that many bettors skip.

  • Do you list sportsbook promos for the NBA?

No. There are no bonuses, promo codes or sign-up deals on this site, and I take no commission from any sportsbook. Promotions are built to increase how much you bet. What you get here is a description of each book: its markets, its pricing model and where it's licensed.
