Which betting sites serve Kenya, and what should you check before you deposit?

Looking for the best betting sites in Kenya? This page covers three of the big names and sells none of them. No bonus offers, no promo codes, no affiliate links: I earn nothing if you open an account.

It’s for adults in Kenya who’ve already decided to bet. Three names is a short list, and it stays short until I’ve checked more: Betika, a Kenyan bookmaker built around mobile money and SMS betting; SportyBet, a mobile-first book whose light pages work on slow connections; and Betway, an international brand with local sites across Africa.

On licensing: bookmakers in Kenya were long licensed by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB). A gambling law passed in 2025 replaces the BCLB with a new regulator, and I can’t tell you how far that handover has got, so check which body is issuing licences today. The rows here don’t show Kenyan licence details yet, because I’m still verifying them by hand. Look for the licence number on the bookmaker’s site and confirm it with the regulator before you deposit. Kenya also taxes both stakes and winnings, and the deductions appear on your bet slip.

Accuracy plays no part in a bookmaker’s mark, since there’s nothing to grade. Weights and criteria are explained in the methodology. Read today’s scores as provisional, since they come from desk research and not from testing.

Multi-bets are the most popular slip in Kenya and the hardest to win. The parlay calculator shows how quickly the chance of winning shrinks with each selection. If someone is selling you tips by SMS or Telegram, read how to spot a scam tipster before you pay. Other countries are on the main bookmakers list.

18+ only. Betting is entertainment, not income, and most bettors lose over time. Help is on the responsible gambling page.

Betting sites in Kenya: common questions

  • Is online betting legal in Kenya?

Yes. Sports betting is legal in Kenya for adults aged 18 and over with a licensed operator. Licences were long issued by the Betting Control and Licensing Board, the BCLB. A gambling law passed in 2025 replaces it with a new regulator, so check which body is issuing licences now. A legitimate bookmaker shows its licence number on its website, and you can ask the regulator to confirm it.

  • Are betting winnings taxed in Kenya?

Yes. Kenya taxes betting in two places: a duty on the stake when you place the bet, and a withholding tax on winnings, both deducted for you by licensed bookmakers. The rates have changed several times, so I won't quote them here. Your bet slip shows the deductions that apply today.

  • Which is the best betting site in Kenya?

On this short list Betway has the highest score, followed by SportyBet and Betika. The scores are provisional and not far apart. Betika is the Kenyan-built one, designed around mobile money and SMS betting. Pick on the things you'll notice every week: prices on the leagues you bet, and how quickly withdrawals arrive.

  • Can I deposit with M-Pesa on Kenyan betting sites?

Mobile money is the normal way to deposit and withdraw with Kenyan bookmakers, and Betika's listing describes it as built around mobile money and SMS betting. I haven't yet verified each bookmaker's payment methods by hand, so check the deposit page for the options and any fees before you sign up.

  • Why do jackpot and multi-bet slips almost never win?

Because every pick has to be right. If each of thirteen matches were a simple one-in-three guess, the chance of getting all of them is about one in 1.6 million. Jackpots are priced like a lottery, so treat them like one: a small stake for fun, never a plan.

  • What should I do if I can't stop betting?

Stop depositing now and tell someone you trust. Ask your bookmaker to close or self-exclude your account, and remove the apps and SMS shortcuts from your phone. Never borrow to bet, including from mobile loan apps. The responsible gambling page lists the warning signs, limits that actually work and where to look for help.
